Walking with babies and very young children
When out walking with babies and young children you must be very careful near roads. There are some simple ways to keep young children safe near traffic.
Top safety tips
- When waiting to cross the road with a buggy or pram do not push it on to the road in front of you. Stand with it next to you on the pavement until all traffic has passed.
- Always hold hands or use reins when out walking with young children
- Never let young children out on their own
- Lead by example. Young children learn by copying adults
- Walk between your child and the passing traffic
- Help children to be seen by dressing them in bright fluorescent clothing by day and reflective clothing at night.
