Walking with Babies and Very Young Children

When out walking with babies and young children you must be very careful near traffic. Here are some useful tips:-

  • When waiting to cross the road with a buggy or pram do not push it onto the road in front of you. Stand with it next to you on the pavement until all traffic has passed.
  • Always hold hands or use reins when out walking with young children
  • Never let young children out on their own
  • Lead by example. Young children learn by copying adults
  • Walk between your child and the passing traffic
  • Help children to be seen by dressing them in bright fluorescent clothing by day and reflective at night.

The Children's Traffic Club in Scotland is a free programme to help parents teach their 3 to 4 year old children road safety.
