Road Safety Scotland

2002-2003 Overview

Speedwatch/National No Speeding Day

Wednesday, 10th April 2002 was designated National No Speeding Day by ACPOS. RSS supported this initiative through press adverts which highlighted the different consequences of being in a crash when driving at 35mph as opposed to 30mph. The adverts carried the Foolsspeed and ACPOS logos.

Summer Safety

The ACPOS Summer Safety campaign concentrated on child safety particularly in relation to the journey to and from school. The enforcement campaign ran from 19th August for a period of two weeks and coincided with the start of the autumn school term. RSS supported the Summer Safety campaign through its contribution to the In Car Safety initiative.

Festive Safety

RSS provided publicity support for the drink drive element of the 2002-2003 Festive Safety campaign in the form of radio advertising. This highlighted the fact that anyone can report a drink driver to Police through using the Crimestoppers confidential telephone line. Washroom posters were also produced and they were displayed in 466 venues throughout Scotland.

Drugs and Driving

The drug driving television advert ‘Last Laugh’ was produced in March 2002 and highlighted the fact that Scottish Police Forces have introduced Field Impairment Testing to assist them in the detection of driving under the influence of drugs.
