Stranraer Young Driver Project
This is an annual 4-week intervention targeted at young drivers between the ages of 16 and 25 in Stranraer. The programme is structured round a number of sessions delivered by community safety practitioners covering issues such as basic car maintenance, first aid, and driver attitudes and behaviour . Annandale and Eskdale Young Driver Project
This is an annual intervention targeted at 16-year-old pre-drivers in Annandale and Eskdale. The programme is structured round a number of sessions delivered by community safety practitioners which take place in Annan, Langholm, Moffat and Lockerbie Academies. Practical driving instruction and basic care maintenance is also provided at the former Chapelcross Nuclear Power Station near Annan. Young Drivers Scheme
This is a referral-led intervention targeted at young drivers who have been brought to the attention of prosecution bodies. Participants are offered a free driving assessment by the IAM as an alternative to prosecution. Upon completion a report is submitted to Procurator Fiscal Service by the IAM outlining the participant's driving experience and their attitudes towards the programme and safety driving. Choices
This is an annual full-day intervention, taking place in schools, targeted at S5 and S6 students. The event is structured around personal experiences and stories from community safety practitioners and input from victims who have suffered from brain injuries as a result of a road traffic collision. With the aid of TV commercials and video clips deliverers cover issues such as attitudes towards driving, hazard perception, the driving test, drink and drug driving, speed, and emotional responses to a car collision and the consequences. Large Interventions
Road Safety Input (Big World)
This is an annual community safety intervention, targeted at all S5 and S6 students in Annandale and Eskdale and Nithsdale. Full-day events take place in Victoria Halls Annan over a two week period and centre round a community safety themed play. The intervention includes a 30-minute police presentation which uses TV commercials, local video clips and photographs to look at the legal and morale issues concerning safe driving.
