Road Safety partners across Scotland agreed that 2010-11 would be a year with a specific focus on seatbelts and all ACPOS campaigns througout the year also targeted seatbelt compliance.

It is estimated that 1 in 3 people who are killed in vehicles are not wearing seatbelts, and about half of them could have been saved had they worn them.On average, police in Scotland catch 27,000 people a year not wearing their seatbelts.
There is an ongoing commitment to increase the use of seatbelts and child restraints. They are a very effective secondary safety measure which save lives and reduce the severity of injuries sustained by vehicle occupants.
