Seatbelts and child restraints save lives and reduce the severity of injuries in vehicles. It is important that every vehicle occupant uses the correct restraint.
Road Safety partners across Scotland agreed that 2010-11 would be a year with a specific focus on seatbelts and all ACPOS campaigns througout the year also targeted seatbelt compliance.

Seatbelts dramatically reduce fatalities and injuries.
It is estimated that 1 in 3 people who are killed in vehicles are not wearing seatbelts, and about half of them could have been saved had they worn them.
On average, police in Scotland catch 27,000 people a year not wearing their seatbelts.
There is an ongoing commitment to increase the use of seatbelts and child restraints. They are a very effective secondary safety measure which save lives and reduce the severity of injuries sustained by vehicle occupants.
