Publicity

Publicity is an essential part of any strategy aimed at reducing road accidents.

It is targeted specifically at road users and aims to provide the advice and information that will allow them to use the roads safely or persuade them to behave correctly. It is closely linked to the enforcement of traffic laws by the police which is the other main way of influencing and improving road user behaviour.

Through its Publicity Sub-committee, RSS has developed a number of campaigns that address particular problem areas. These include seatbelts, speeding, drink and drug driving, distraction, country roads, child restraints and young drivers. Information on the key campaigns can be found at Don't Risk It.

RSS works very closely with the Police service in Scotland, supporting a number of enforcement campaigns carried out each year by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) through the provision of supporting publicity.
