Driving in Scotland on a foreign licence

Be prepared if you are planning to drive in Scotland for the first time.

RSS produces and distributes two types of information leaflets that are aimed at foreign drivers – the Migrant Workers leaflet and the Foreign Drivers leaflet. This leaflet can be downloaded from the Advice for drivers page.

The Migrant Workers leaflet is aimed at people who have come to the UK to live and work and will therefore be staying in the country for a prolonged period of time. It contains details about what is required to drive legally in the UK, these are available in the following languages: French, Polish, Russian and Lithuanian.

The Driving in Scotland leaflet [PDF - 2MB] is for people – such as tourists – who will be staying and driving in Scotland for a short time only. It contains basic information in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish about how to drive safely in Scotland.
